Garden of Life

Hi there followers and visitors,
Thanks for stopping in today!!!

Well its October 1 and time for a new challenge over at Craft-Dee BowZ.
The theme over there is always Anything Goes with a Handmade Bow.

Let me show you my inspiration piece for CDB for October.

Oh I have some info to share with you about that bow and that background paper you see on the card and in the flower. This card has reused netting and that background paper is altered and reused too.

Gee where do I start. OK let me start with the background. Have you heard of Citrasolv?? (I found it at my health food store)  No !! Well its a cleaner that is made from oranges. It has a strong orange smell. It doesn't bother me but some may find it a little strong. OK so I use this Citrasolv stuff and sprinkle it directly on National Geographic magazine pages. Yep you heard me right. In short you sprinkle this Citrasolv on the pages and close the magazine. Come back about 30 minutes later to see if the magic has started. For a better explanation please view the you tube link here for a walk through. You will find this quite interesting.

Here are some shots of a few sheets of my altered National Geographic pages.

Interesting aren't they!!! If you like altered then you may like this!!! I also used a Citrasolv paper on the flower petals. I stamped and embossed the flower outline, cut those blooms out, and adhered the blooms over the stamped image on CS.

OK let me share some info about my bow.

You know the netting that some fruits come in from time to time??
You know,this stuff,

Well I keep some of these in my stash to use for various projects. (Yes I am a big saver of stuff) This is not that plastic kind but has more of a soft fabric feel. Anyhoo, I pulled this out and decided it could be used like ribbon, so I made a bow and added it to this card.

This bow looks really cool in person. I love the look I got with this. Hope you try using the netting and remember, the Craft-Dee BowZ makes it easy to make a bow using something out of the ordinary. Also hope you give the Citrasolv a try on a National Geographic magazine.

I love the look of this...this is more artsy fartsy than I usually do but you have me curious and now I'm going to try this technique. I even have old copies of National Geographic still in the rack to be read at our house...how funny is that! I love how you cut the petals out of the altered paper, too. I was just thinking: I could probably use ALL the issues of National Geographic that I have since they're from 2009...bet they're reporting on stuff that is now so outdated that I shouldn't even bother reading them. Hugs, Gail
